Wonder Woman is a DC Comic character. Wonder Woman was brought to life by famed psychologist and inventor of the polygraph, William Moulton Marston, and artist Harry G. Peter. Marston wife, Elizabeth, and their partner, Olive Bryne, are also credited to being Marston inspiration for Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman first appeared in All Star Comics #8 which was published on October 21, 1941 with her first feature comic coming in January 1942 in Sensation Comics #1. Wonder Woman is a founding member of the Justice League.
Wonder Woman is from the mystical and hidden island of Themyscira. She is the princess of the Amazons, an all-female group of warriors. Her official title is Princess Diana of Themyscira. She has been known to adopt the name Diana Prince when away from Themyscira.
Diana is a demi-god. Her mother and leader of the Amazons, Queen Hippolyta, sculpted Diana from clay and she was brought to life by Zeus. As a gift from the gods, Diana was given her super powers. Her trademark super items include the Lasso of Truth, a pair of indestructible golden bracelets, her tiara and other devices from Amazon technology, like her invisible plane.
Another version of Wonder Woman, whom you may not know, is Nubia, Diana's twin sister who was sclupted from black clay. Nubia was created by Robert Kanigher and Don Heck. Her debut was in January 1973 in Wonder Woman #204. Nubia is generally regarded as DC's first black female superhero. Nubia is just as strong and fierce as Diana. She was stolen by Mars and raised to be his warrior. Nubia is the ruler of a community of men and resides on the mist-hidden Floating Island. Diana helps release Nubia from the influences of Mars. Once released from Mars control, Nubia returns to her island to led her warriors in the way of peace. Nubia has also been the queen of the Amazons and Wonder Woman.
When I was growing up, I loved Wonder Woman and Lynda Carter. When Lynda Carter spun around to change into Wonder Woman, I spun around too. If she was fighting bad guys, I was too. I had Wonder Woman underoos so I could dress like her.
Wonder Woman is courageous, strong and beautiful. She can do anything and she is not the "damsel in distress" waiting to be saved. She's fought many villians, the Nazis and aliens. She saved Steve Trevor and the world. I wanted to be just like her.
Today, Wonder Woman is still my favorite superhero. I have rewatched the entire Wonder Woman TV series with Lynda Carter. I have seen the 2017 Wonder Woman movie three times in the theater and well over 50 times (may be closer to 100; this is not an exaggeration).
She is still saving Steve Trevor and the world. And I'm fighting the bad guys right along with her.
